Bored

“Bored”

–Amy Engle

National Poetry Writing Month 2017 Poem #8

You’re bored?

Since when is it my job

To entertain you?

I don’t think so.

I’m not paid to do that.

You’re gonna have to

Find a way to make these

Moments interesting

On your own.

Stop being a brat

And put some effort

Into what you’re doing.

You don’t understand

The sense of accomplishment

You can feel when you

Actually do something.

Our brains are meant

To be challenged

Or the nerve cells

Start to whither and die.

Do you want your mind

To kill itself?

Well, that’s what it does.

It prunes and deletes

The parts that aren’t active.

If you value what

Intelligence that you have,

You should seek ways

To expand your mind,

Rather than let it

Diminish into nothing.
