Rare Commodity

“Rare Commodity”

–Amy Engle

National Poetry Writing Month 2017 Poem #17

Who can learn a hundred names and personalities

While adjusting curriculum to suit their needs?

Who can discipline, correct mistakes, and build character

While still being liked and respected by their dear wards?

Who can call parents, grade papers, and attend meetings

While still having energy to teach and adjust lessons all day?

Not a doctor. Not a lawyer. Not a politician. Not an athlete.

I can–a humble, under-appreciate, over-worked teacher.

I am a rare commodity: someone able to help the next gen

To become decent members of today’s growing society.
